Earth Day - Tree Planting 2014-15
The entire school gather together in our median strip in front of the school. Each year for the past 7 years we have planted a native tree, a few have not flourished as well, like the crab apple tree from Earth Day 2011. We have found that the Eastern Red Bud tree thrives at OFE. We have continued to plant a new Eastern Red Bud tree each year for the past 4 years. The pinkish/purple blooms bring beauty to the front of our school. The heart shaped leaf represents the love we have for our school.
Earth Day - Tree Planting 2015 - 16
Pictured below is an Earth Day email , outlining our schedule and other suggested activities. Photos are from our tree planting ceremony. After the ceremony, grade levels went to work in their assigned areas, pictures from the 5th grade are shown from our breakout sessions.
Green Scene: Garden Clean - up days (Spring 2015, Fall 2016)
After some staffing changes at OFE, we have been without a garden club advisor. (Prior to 2015, we had a garden club who would meet and learn gardening techniques, how to make teas from some of the herbs, etc. They had guest master gardeners come in as guests and work with the students too!) We would like to get the garden club running once again! Meanwhile we started having special green scene work days. We have opened it up to many students to participate in helping in our garden. In spring of 2015 we had over 75 students k-5 and about 12 parents and additional staff members help. Each student who participated was given a pack of native Black Eye Susan seeds to take home and plant. (Photos from fall '16)
